Meet and Hear Kathy Black, Ph.D., Hartford Geriatric Social Work Faculty Scholar |
Forum Overview
Planning for care throughout the end of life is a critically important aspect of preparation for the latter years. As the nation's population continues to live longer, more and more people enjoy activities longer, and many will experience years of functional and cognitive decline. Kathy Black is an expert in end-of-life care planning. She will explain how planning in advance for care provides people with peace of mind and the growing importance of using a long-range, holistic perspective of examining care needs. Eventual care is conceptualized by three trajectories of decline, with about two-thirds of older adults succumbing to four key conditions: congestive heart failure, emphysema, frailty, and dementia. Dr. Black will offer recommendations for individuals and families to facilitate advance care planning throughout life.
Books on how to care for the aging will be distributed to the first 50 people who sign in the day of the event.

Event Sponsor is Alderman Oaks LifeCare Services -- the Services Arm of Alderman Oaks Retirement Center in Downtown Sarasota (www.aldermanoaks.com).
